The tree of the Parthenocarpic variety For the starting of the discussion, let it suffice to know that the banana plant is a herb that’s rather large in size; it grows from an under-ground stem called and the trunk is a form created actually by the leaves. Fruits arrive from the large flower spike with numerous individual flowers, after which, the plant dies, only to be replaced by the sprouts from the same rhizome. The banana plant is a tree of the Parthenocarpic (fruits develop without fertilization or seeds) variety and hence reproduces asexually; it also prevents the mingling of genetic traits.

Banana Plant Care: Just like any other thing, it’s the base i.e. soil that’s considered the first priority for growing banana. A well draining mixture of soil can be obtained by adding 20% of Perlite to it; however, the soil shouldn’t be heavy and the banana rhizome must be sown upright with the roots well covered. A proper banana plant care requires water and fertilizers to be added at the same time; the plants being heavy feeders, fertilizers are to be applied in a rather light manner. A balanced fertilizer i.e. the ones with three numbers on the label are just right for the purpose; watering must occur at regular intervals or when the soil would dry to a half-inch depth. Twelve hours of bright daylight is essential and so is constant warmth and high humidity; at night, the ideal temperature would be 67F.

Avocado is usually not grown from a seed in commercial orchards. However, avocado can be easily grown as a houseplant from the seed. Growing an avocado plant in your home can be a lot of fun, but you need to be careful because growing a plant needs a lot of patience and a proper environment. To grow an avocado plant from the seed, first remove the pit from the center and wash it under cool, running water. Do not use soap or hot water. Wipe away the remaining fruit from the seed gently with your fingers. Then blot the seed dry on a paper towel.

Push three toothpicks into the thickest part of the pit carefully, about ½” deep. Suspend the seed over a glass filled with water. Always keep an eye on the level of the water covering the base of the pit. It should be immersed in about an-inch deep water. In case the water is below the required level, carefully refill the glass without splashing any water.

The glass should be then placed on a bright windowsill. The pit will split open in about three to six weeks and a stem will sprout from the top. The roots will grow from the base. After the stem grows to a height of five to six inches, pinch out the top set of leaves and wait for another two to three weeks until new leaves and roots appear. Now take the young sapling, stem and roots, out of the glass and place it in a large flowerpot, filled with enriched soil. The flowerpot should be kept in a place that receives ample sunlight.

Conditions required for nurturing an avocado plant into a tree: The avocado plant needs a climate devoid of frost and wind, to grow into a sturdy tree. In case there is frost, the fruit drops from the tree. Avocado plants need well-aerated soil, more than 1 m deep, to grow well. The water should not be saline or the yield reduces.Sprouting an avocado plant from the pit: The inside of the avocado holds an added bonus, the pit of the fruit, out of which a new avocado plant can be grown. To sprout the pit or seed, it is taken out whole from the fruit and washed and dried. Finally, with the help of toothpicks is kept half afloat in a glass of water until the stem and roots sprout. All this is easy, however should be aware that the broad end is considered the base and it should always be immersed in water. The pointed end is considered the top and should always stay afloat. You can log on to the Internet and check out the pictures depicting the sprouting of an avocado plant from a seed.

Azaleas are one the most common and popular flowering plants. With abundant, colorful flowers which remain fresh for long make them ideal for gifting. These flowering plants can be grown outdoors but can be kept indoors as long as the flowers are colorful. You can place the plants in a location which is bright but not receiving the sunlight directly. Keep the soil evenly moist but the pot should never be waterlogged. Azalea plants which are grown in pots are present in a root-bound condition, may require frequent watering. But do not allow the plants to sit in a water-filled saucer as it will irreversibly damage the roots. You can spray the plant with water to increase the humidity. This will reduce the chances of invasion of spider mites which can plague in the bush if the atmosphere is too dry. The first and foremost important rule for Azalea Plant care is to choose the right location. You can plant Azaleas at any spot that is cooled by partial shade. Protection from strong midday sun is important; otherwise the leaves can dry out or burn. Northern exposures are best for the Azaleas.

It is also important to provide protection from winds. The soil should be acidic and well-drained and should not retain excess water entrapped in them. Some varieties may tolerate full sun if you water the plant properly. The ideal soil pH should be around 5.5. Test for the soil in your garden and if you find that to be alkaline, apply specialty fertilizers that contain ammonium-N, which will lower soil pH. This quality can be improved with decomposed sawdust or pine barks which are acidic in nature. The soil should have good tactic for providing the necessary drainage. The ideal season for planting Azalea is either late fall or early spring. You should not apply fertilizer at the time of planting as the new foliage and roots are not ready to handle the high salt content of fertilizer. Since Azalea prefers indirect sunlight, you can choose a good shade tree to grow near the plant. You should pick up a tree which is comfortable with acidic soil, and will not have shallow roots. Red oak is one of the ideal choices as the shade tree for Azalea. An average minimum winter temperature of 0 to -10 degrees F can helps the growth of Azalea plant. In colder areas they can grow only in Green houses.

There are umpteen numbers of resources that speak about the anatomy and development of banana; among the prominent ones, the works of von Loesecke, Simmonds and Palmer require a special mention. However, we are going to restrict ourselves to the edible bananas, which is parthenocarpic by nature and propagates from the rhizome.

The banana, thus can as well be categorized into the berry class that forms from a superior ovary of three joined carpels in axile placentation. The clusters of fruits, or hands resulting from the unisexual flowers (born near to the base of the peduncle) develop into the bananas later on.

Avocado is a fruit, native to Central America and Mexico. It grows to an average height of 65 ft or 20 m and has alternately arranged leaves, which are evergreen. The avocado fruit is a pear shaped berry that grows around 7 to 20 cm long and weighs around 100-1000 g. The avocado fruit bears a large central seed that is approximately 3 to 5 cm in diameter, out of which a new avocado plant can be grown.

Although an avocado plant can be grown from the seed, nevertheless, due to long growth periods and the problems associated with self-pollination, commercial avocado plant growers use seedling plants or grafted trees and rootstocks. Rootstocks are grown out of seeds or from cloned rootstocks. Cloned rootstocks are good for problematic soil conditions like poor soil aeration and soil infested with Phytophthora root rot.
