There are umpteen numbers of resources that speak about the anatomy and development of banana; among the prominent ones, the works of von Loesecke, Simmonds and Palmer require a special mention. However, we are going to restrict ourselves to the edible bananas, which is parthenocarpic by nature and propagates from the rhizome.

The banana, thus can as well be categorized into the berry class that forms from a superior ovary of three joined carpels in axile placentation. The clusters of fruits, or hands resulting from the unisexual flowers (born near to the base of the peduncle) develop into the bananas later on.
